Controversial Security Proposals by Argentinian Politician

Amid growing concern over insecurity in the province of Buenos Aires, La Libertad Avanza deputy, José Luis Espert, made controversial statements proposing extreme measures against criminals and drug traffickers.

"You can't live like this; criminals need to be filled with holes directly, filled with holes with bullets, yes," the legislator stated in an interview with Jonatan Viale on TN. He also asserted that in the province "there is a kind of curfew" imposed by crime and suggested that the solution is to apply exemplary punishments.

"Hang four or five of these criminals in a public square, after filling them with holes, and you will see how they no longer mess with working people. That's why I say federal intervention is for that," the deputy added. For Espert, security forces must regain authority: "Today, the criminal laughs in front of the police because he knows that if the police shoot, he ends up in jail, so the police are left frozen."

Espert also targeted drug traffickers and proposed that the state act with full force: "Run over the narcos directly, crush the bankers of the drug traffickers with tanks."
